Cougar Swimmers Compete at Fort Gibson

FORT GIBSON — Varsity and junior high swimmers from Ada  made their annual trip to Fort Gibson Friday night for a meet with Miami and host Fort Gibson.

For the first time in the seven-year history of the Ada-Byng swimming co-op program, the full Ada girls team earned a trip to the 2010 OSSAA State Swimming Championships.

“We are proud of the accomplishments of our OSSAA swimmers so far this year”, said head coach Dr. Anita Walker.

“There is no doubt that state qualifiers are exciting to have, but a better overall measure of our success is the huge number of personal time improvements that have been made by all of our participating students in their first eight meets of the season. There are no swim teams and there are no relays without the individuals themselves, and we are equally proud of each and every one of our swimmers.”

Ada to send another group to state meet

HARRAH — Local varsity and junior swimmers continued their winning ways Friday, Dec. 18 in Harrah by posting 28 OSSAA personal best times and breaking four school records.

In addition the Ada girls 200 yard freestyle relay team of Kelli Hansen, Amelia Stevens, Derrek George, and Claire Pottebaum qualified for the OSSAA State Swimming Championships to be held at the end of the season in February.

The Friday meet was held at the Harrah High School 25-yard pool and was attended by 64 varsity swimmers from Ada, Byng, Enid, Harrah, Luther, McLoud and Vanoss. In addition a dozen junior high swimmers from Ada and Harrah competed in a concurrent sprint meet.

“This meet was a good ending to the first half of our OSSAA season”, said head coach Dr Anita Walker, ECU Professor of Mathematics. “After the next two weeks of a reduced workout schedule, we will return in full force after the change of calendar for the second half of the season. We anticipate continued success and enjoyable meets, as usual!”
