OKLAHOMA CITY – The Ada High School girls golf team settled for a ninth-place finish as the Class 4A State Tournament wrapped up last Thursday at the Lake Hefner South Course.
Plainview — coached by Ada High graduate Taylor Howard — captured the team crown with a two-round score of 634 to outdistance second-place Hilldale, which ended up with a 657. Elk City was third at 674.
The Lady Cougars, making their fifth straight state tournament, ended up with a team score of 785.
“We knew going into the state tournament that Plainview, Hilldale and Elk City would contend for the state title and that’s exactly what happened,” said Ada head coach Ron Anderson. “We felt if we played better than average, we could finish in the top half of the field. It was just not our week, even during the practice round on Tuesday. The weather was horrible on Wednesday, and no one started off good at all.”
The best finish for the Lady Cougars came from Meredith McGill and Taylor Durr, who each finished at 190 for the two rounds combined and tied for 40th place. McGill shot a 93 and 97, while Durr had a 99 and 91.
Hannah Price ended up with a 200 (99-101) to tie for 53rd place for Ada. Teammate Lauren John ended up with a 207 (101-106), and Lakshana Ramakrishna ended up with a 214 (110-104).
Plainview had four players place in the top 10, led by Katie Finley, who captured medalist honors with a 151, including an 80 in the opening round and an impressive 71 in the second.
The state tournament was the finale for two Ada seniors , Durr and McGill.
“Taylor and Meredith will be missed to graduation,” Anderson said. “I’m so proud of them and hope the best in their future. Hannah, Lakshana and Lauren will return next year, and I hope they take advantage of some competitive tournaments this summer.”
