ARDMORE – Junior Hannah Price shot a 95 for eighth place and teammate Meredith McGill posted a 98 for 10th in leading the Ada High School girls golf team to a third-place, finish in the loaded Plainview Tournament on Wednesday at Ardmore’s Lakeview Course.
Host Plainview — coached by Ada High graduate Taylor Howard took the team title with a 321. Lone Grove was second at 372. Ada ended up with a 403, and Dickson finished with a 470.
Plainview claimed five of the top 10 spots, including a 1-2 finish by Katie Finley with a 72 and D.A. Smith with a 79, as they were the only two to break 80.
“It was certainly the most difficult conditions of the season,” said Ada coach Ron Anderson. “As you might expect, Lakeview has a lake. The wind reached gusts up to 40 miles per hour, making it difficult from any direction you hit. It’s obvious the wind conditions would require different strategy than under normal conditions, and I told them it was at least a two-club wind, meaning select a club two more in distance while hitting into the wind and opposite when hitting with the wind.”
Rounding out the Ada scores were: Taylor Durr with a 103, Lauren John with a 107 and Lakshana Ramakrshnan with a 111.
“I’m proud of the girls for battling through it, because it affected every shot, including their putting,” Anderson said. “Plainview, on the other hand, did have trouble, but their golf balls seemed to slice through the wind. They are very good, and they’ll certainly be the favorite to win the Class 4A State Championship.”
The Lady Cougars’ next competition will be Thursday, April 13, in Atoka.
