 | | Lady Cougar Track | | 05/11/10 - Lady Cougars Compete At Regionals One Ada Lady Cougar made state, and did so as a regional champion. Jenna Huling won the high jump with a leap of 5-2.
“I am so proud of her,” Ada Lady Cougars coach Michelle Shannon said. “She has stayed focused throughout the season. Up until today, she had only cleared 4-10.”
Shannon also praised the efforts of Ada coach Darin Kapella, who worked closely with Huling throughout the season.
“He’s really helped her in the long jump and the high jump,” she said.
Huling has a chance at a second state event as she was fifth in the long jump (14-4), and will have to wait to see if she is one of the top four long jumpers from the non-automatic state qualifiers. Huling will not be alone on the waiting list. Catie Newport was sixth in the 200-meter dash (27.73 seconds) and Megan Whitting was sixth in the 3,200-meter run (14:56.56), and they will have to wait to see if they will qualify for state with an at-large berth.
As a team, the Lady Cougars tied for sixth place along with Lawton MacArthur with 14 points. Chickasha won the regional title (139 points), followed by Carl Albert (125), Durant (112), Western Heights (98) and Ardmore (93). | | More >> |
| Lady Cougar Track | 03/29/10 - Lady Cougars Compete In The Dorsey Reirdon Relays The Lady Cougars had one winner as Catie Newport won the 200-meter dash (27.74 seconds).
“For the first track meet, I thought Catie did well. She was very happy winning the 200. She was kind of disappointed that she didn’t qualify for state last year and she’s been working hard this spring,” said Ada girls track coach Michelle Shannon.
Taryn Jack — a jack of all trades who is also a catcher for the Ada softball team and the goalie for the Ada soccer team — placed fifth in both the 100- and 200-yard dash events.
“Taryn Jack had a personal best in the 100 (12.99),” Shannon said.
Kylie Byrd was fifth in the 300 Hurdles while Victoria Lotter — who is better know for her cross country running — finished sixth in the 400 with a time of 1:08.04.
“Victoria ended up running a really good time for a distance runner. She had some butterflies, but she did well,” Shannon said.
Shannon said she believes the Lady Cougars will improve throughout the season.
“We’re off to a good start. Those kids all work hard and give everything they have every day. We’re just going to try and get better every track meet,” he said.

| Regionals | 05/13/09 - Freshmen heading to state
PONCA CITY — Two Ada freshmen qualified for the girls Class 5A State Track Meet scheduled for Friday and Saturday at Moore High School after strong performances at regionals this past weekend in Ponca City.
Jenna Huling, who has been steady all spring in te high jump, won a 5A Regional championship with a jump of five feet.
“Jenna is just a natural at the high jump and she’s just going to get better,” said Ada girls track coach Michelle Shannon.
The surprise of the regional for Ada was Taryn Jack, who sped her way to a third place showing in the 100 Meter Dash with a time of 13:51.
Jack had competed in the 100 Meter Dash at one other meet this spring. She had been focusing on throwing the discus before letting her coach know she had competed in the 100 Meter Dash in junior high.
“It couldn’t have happened to a better kid,” Shannon said. “She came up to me one day and told me she used to run the 100 so I was more than happy to let and she did extremely well.”
