The Ada High School girls tennis team settled for a fifth-place finish in its own tournament on Saturday.
Duncan won the tournament with a team score of 57, followed by Deer Creek at 54, Yukon at 44, Norman at 44 and Ada at 42. There were 15 teams competing in the event.
The Lady Cougars had one fourth-place effort, two fifth-place finishes and one eighth place.
Ada’s highest finish came at No. 2 doubles, as the combination of Maggie Summers and Ella Summers fell in their final match by a 6-4, 0-6 (13-11) count.
At No. 1 doubles, the Ada team of Lauryn Hawkins and Meredyth Morris was 1-6, 6-2 (10-8) winners over Ardmore’s B team of Corona and Tellez in the fifth-place match.
Mikayla Freeman, competing at No. 1 singles for the Lady Cougars, captured fifth after a 2-6, 6-1 (10-5) victory over McAlester’s Abby Smith.
At No. 1 singles, Pauls Valley’s Cameron Freeland was a 6-4, 6-2 winner over Ada’s Maggie Johnson in the seventh-place match.
The next action for the Lady Cougars will be March 28 at the Oklahoma City Tennis Center.
