The Ada High School girls tennis squad crowned three champions and one runner-up in capturing a Class 4A regional crown Monday at the Earlywine Tennis Center.

 

Ada, which scored 62 points in the event, registered titles at No. 2 Singles, No. 1 Doubles and No. 2 Doubles in the 11-team event.


At No. 2 Singles, Ada’s Lena Lichau rolled to a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Leah Smith, of Classen SAS, in the championship match.

 

The Lady Cougars’ tandem of Karsen Sheffield and Mikala Whelchel earned the No. 1 Doubles crown by claiming a 6-1, 6-4 decision over the Anadarko team of Unah and Ward in the title match.

 

At No. 2 doubles, Ada’s Lauren Burden and Morganne Freeman collaborated for a 6-2, 6-1 win over the Mount St. Mary’s team of Evan and Wen for the championship.

 

The Lady Cougars’ Kendal Johnson dropped her championship match to Harding Prep’s Jessica Le by a 6-0, 6-0 score at No. 1 Singles.

 

The state tournament is set for Friday and Saturday at the Oklahoma City Tennis Center.
