No. 15 Blanchard hit eight 3-pointers, including five in the second half, and shot past upset-minded Ada 47-35 in a Class 4A District championship game Friday night inside the Cougar Activity Center.
The Lady Lions improved to 18-6 on the year, while Ada fell to 8-15.
Blanchard hit four 3-pointers in the first quarter — including back-to-back triples by Brittney Garrett — to rally from a 9-5 deficit and take a 14-11 lead.
Ada responded by amping up its defensive pressure and limiting the Lady Lions to just two second-quarter field goals.
Alex Hamilton’s steal and layup with 2:43 left in the period ended the score and put Ada ahead 19-18 at halftime.
However, Ada committed 11 of its 19 turnovers in the second half, and Blanchard outscored the hosts by a combined 29-16 count over the final two quarters.
“I thought we played our tails off tonight. We played hard. We just had some turnovers and gave up too many offensive rebounds,” said Ada head coach Christie Jennings. “I thought as the game progressed, they hit big shots and we didn’t.”
Ada freshman Landyn Owens scored on a putback to open the third quarter and put her team on top 21-18.
Blanchard followed with a 7-0 run to take the lead for good.
Madalyn Jaques scored at the 1:26 mark of the third quarter to make it 31-25, but the Lady Lions made three straight baskets to extend their lead to 37-25 with 6:34 left in the final period. The Lady Cougars didn’t get within single digits again.
“I was very pleased with our effort. I thought that was the hardest we’ve played all year,” Jennings said. “We’re just going to have to move on to the next one.”
Owens led Ada with 12 points, three steals and two rebounds. Makayla Emarthle added seven points, five boards and three assists for Jennings’ bunch. Kaley Watkins and Hamilton chipped in six points each.
Blanchard got four 3-pointers and 14 points from Garrett, while McKenzie Cockerham followed with nine points.
