Cache Defeats The Lady Cougars
01/24/18 -

NEWCASTLE — The Ada Lady Cougars held Cache to just two points during the first 10 minutes of their consolation championship contest at the 2018 “Sweet Pea” Tournament in Newcastle Saturday afternoon.

However, the Lady Bulldogs closed the gap to 10-8 at halftime and overwhelmed Ada in the second half en route to a 40-30 win over the Lady Cougars.

Cache outscored Ada 18-10 in a pivotal third-quarter run and closed out the game with a 14-10 fourth quarter.

Ada dropped to 6-10 on the season, with a showdown looming with Class 6A No. 17 Shawnee coming to town tonight. Cache improved to 6-11.

Ada led 8-2 midway through the second quarter. Mikayla Emarthle had four points during that stretch, which also included buckets from Landyn Owens and Taylor Porter. After Cache tied the game at 8-8 on three straight layups, Owens hit a jumper to give Ada its slim 10-8 halftime advantage.

Emarthle finished with 13 points to pace the Ada effort, while Owens followed with 7. Madalyn Jaques, who suffered a sprained ankle in the game, still scored four points for the Lady Cougars, while Alex Hamilton drilled a 3-pointer.

In a previous matchup at the Duncan Tournament this year, Cache edged Ada 39-36. The Lady Bulldogs sank eight 3-pointers in that win but made just two triples on Saturday.

Ashley Turner led the CHS offense with a game-high 22 points.
