The Ada High girls soccer team started off slow but scored two second-half goals in a 3-0 shutout victory over McLoud at home Tuesday night.
The Lady Cougars improved to 3-0 on the young season, while McLoud fell to 1-2.
“We didn’t have the best first half. We started off very slow and not very aggressive,” said Ada head coach Cole Jones.
Junior Amanda Shorman scored the lone first-half goal for the Lady Cougars, who led 1-0 at halftime.
Freshman Landyn Owens and sophomore Dianishka Santiago both registered second-half goals for Ada to round out the scoring.
“The girls played much better the second half. They had to play into a very strong wind and came out much faster and aggressive,” Jones said. “They dominated possession the second half and scored two more goals.”
Jones said seniors Jaden Mitchell and Brianna Iorga led a strong Lady Cougar defensive charge.
“The defense played very solid the entire game,” Jones said. “I was very happy to see the girls respond to a game where they didn’t start out the best but were able to fix it and finish with a ton of effort.”
Madison Wilson was the winning goalkeeper for Ada.
