SHAWNEE The Ada High boys golf team qualified for the state tournament after a runner-up finish at the Class 4A Regional Tournament, held Monday at Firelake Golf Course in Shawnee.
The Ada boys shot a two-round score of 323-313636 and finished 15 shots ahead of third-place Hilldale, which finished at 334-317651.
Cascia Hall won the regional championship after firing off an impressive score of 307-287594.
I felt like we performed pretty well today overall. I was a little disappointed in our first round but felt like we rebounded well in the afternoon, said Ada head coach Robbie Powell. We did throw away several strokes at the end of both rounds, but it is not like we would have been able to beat Cascia Hall the way they played.
Rounding out the regional field were Fort Gibson (354-362716), Bristow (389-368757), Wagoner (388-378766) and Tecumseh (396-375771).
Berryhills Logan Brooks won the medalist crown with a 70-67137, while Will Sides of Cascia Hall was two strokes back at 72-67139. Cascia Halls Jack Gero was third with a 74-69143 score.
Max Roberts and Michael Huff led the way for the Cougars. Roberts fired a 79-76155, and Huff followed at 78-79157.
Rounding out the Ada scoring were Matthew Brown (83-78161), Aiden Plumlee (83-80163) and David Anderson (86-81167).
The Class 4A State Tournament is scheduled for May 6-7 at the Dornick Hills Golf and Country Club in Ardmore.
We will need to be much better next week in the state tournament, Powell said.
