MIDWEST CITY — The Ada High boys golf team placed second at the 2018 Carl Albert Invitational Thursday at the John Conrad Golf Course.
Guthrie won the team championship with a score of 311, while Ada was next at 322. Host Carl Albert finished third at 324, while Piedmont was next at 331.
“It was a pretty good finish against a better field of teams this week,” said Ada head coach Robbie Powell. “I was happy with a runner-up finish and really happy to be in the low 320s this week.”
Bo Robbins of Guthrie won the medalist race with a score of 72, while Kevin Farmer of Lawton Eisenhower and Luke Morgan of Guthrie were next with 73s. Carson Koon of Carl Albert was fourth at 75, while Ada’s Matthew Brown finished fifth with a score of 77.
Max Roberts was next for Ada with a score of 79, while Ross Kemp carded an 80.
“Matthew and Ross played very solid. Max struggled a little bit this week but still managed a pretty good score,” Powell said.
Rounding out the Ada contingent were Mack Wees at 86 and Ryan Hagar at 89.
Powell said the Cougars need to improve when they are closer to the pin.
“We really need to continue to get better with play from inside 100 yards,” he said.
The Cougars host the 2018 Tournament of Champions Monday at the Oak Hills Golf and Country Club. The event will tee off with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
