Ada Cougar Baseball Defeats McCloud
04/17/19 -

McLOUD – Bo Charboneau and Zac Carroll cranked out back-to-back home runs to highlight a four-run second inning Thursday as the Ada Cougars rolled to a 9-4 victory over the host McLoud Redkins as part of the Central Oklahoma 4A Festival.

Chaboneau’s three-run blast, which scored John David Muse and Dillin Brown, was followed by Carroll’s solo shot as Ada, 14-10 on the season, built a 5-1 advantage.

McLoud did pull within 5-4, but the Cougars put the game away with a single run in the fifth and three more scores in the sixth.

Carroll went 2-for-3 from the plate with his homer and a double, as he scored three times and drew a walk. Brown was 1-for-1 with a run scored and a walk, and Muse finished 1-for-3 with a run scored and a walk.

The Cougars picked up their first run in the first inning. Carroll doubled to right field with one out, advanced to third on an error and scored off a balk.

Then came the four-run second.

Muse walked with one out and moved up to second on Brown’s single to left. Ryan Hagar’s groundout then pushed Muse and Brown into scoring position at third and second, respectively. That set the stage for Charboneau’s three-run homer to left and Carroll’s solo shot to make it 5-1.

McLoud picked up two runs in the bottom of the second to close the gap to 5-1 and then pulled within 5-4 with a single score in the fourth.

Ada then went up 6-4 in the fifth when Caden Sliger walked, ultimately advanced to third on an error and scored on another miscue.

The three-run uprising by the Cougars in the sixth came after Sliger was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, and the other two scores came off another Redskin error. McLoud had five miscues in the game, while Ada had three.

Starting pitcher Tovan Thomsen was credited with the win after getting relief help from Hunter Condon. Thomsen struck out nine, walked five and surrendered just two earned runs in three innings. Condon struck out three and walked two in four scoreless innings of relief.

The Cougars host district foe Plainview at 4:30 p.m. Monday.
