Cougar Baseball Shuts Out Little Axe
03/10/18 -

LITTLE AXE – Jackson McFarlane went 3-for-3 from the plate, and Patrick Tims launched a two-run homer as the Ada Cougars rolled to a 12-0 rout of host Little Axe in five innings on Thursday.

McFarlane tripled once, drove in two runs, scored three times and drew a walk. Tims finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a pair of runs scored as Ada pounded out eight hits.

Starting pitcher Jerrett Ellis got the win after working two innings, allowing just one hit, walking two and striking out two. McFarlane pitched the next two innings and allowed only one hit and one walk while striking out one. Jalen Graham threw the fifth and allowed no hits and one walk while striking out a pair.

The Cougars, who improved to 2-2 on the young season, jumped on Little Axe with three first-inning runs. McFarlane led off with a single, stole second and moved up to third before scoring on Graham’s RBI groundout. Tims later hit his two-run homer to make it 3-0.

Ada added two more scores in the third after McFarlane hit his leadoff triple to center. He then scored when Graham reached on an error to short. Hunter Conklin later picked up an RBI, scoring Graham, on a sacrifice fly to make it 5-0.

Then a seven-run fourth, helped by some errors, led to the final score. The highlights of the inning were a two-run single by McFarlane, a run-scoring single by Conklin and an RBI single from pinch-hitter Trel Moore.

Moore was 1-for-1 with the one RBI. Christian Maloy finished 1-for-2 with a double and scored once. Conklin ended up 1-for-3 with the two RBIs and scored one time.

The Indians were plagued by five errors in the contest, as only six of the 12 runs scored by the Cougars were earned.

Ada hosts local rival Byng at 4:30 p.m. Monday and travels to Byng at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in a pair of District 4A-3 contests.
