Lone Grove Sweeps Lady Cougars
09/09/18 -

LONE GROVE — Sophomore stud pitcher Emmy Guthrie tossed a five-inning no-hitter to help the host Lone Grove Lady Longhorns shut out Ada 11-0 in the first game of a District 4A-3 doubleheader Tuesday night.

The Lady Longhorns used a repeat performance and also defeated Ada 11-0 in Game 2 to improve to 14-4 on the season. Lone Grove sits atop the district standings with an 8-1 record. Ada fell to 8-14 and 2-7.

“We didn’t even play bad, Lone Grove is just really good,” said Ada head coach Taylor Canida-Henry.

Ada was scheduled to play a makeup game Wednesday at Pauls Valley, but that contest was rained out. The Lady Cougars are now off until a Sept. 11 trip to Holdenville.

Game 1

Lone Grove 11, Ada 0

Guthrie, who has already committed to play at the University of Oklahoma, struck out 10 and walked one in five innings of work.

The Lady Longhorns compiled 13 hits, led by Logan Ketchum’s 3-for-3 performance that included a triple and two RBIs. Shelby Stevenson went 1-for-1 with a home run, three RBIs and two runs scored, while Malea McMurtrey finished 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored from the top of the LGHS lineup.

The hosts scored five runs in the first inning and four more in the second to grab an early 9-0 lead.

Game 2

Logan Ketchum was the winning hurler for the Lady Longhorns in this contest. She struck out four, walked one and allowed just one hit in five innings.

Avery Brown had Ada’s lone base hit, while Ashley Bottoms walked for the Lady Cougars.

Malea McMurtrey paced a 16-hit Lone Grove barrage, going 3-for-4 with a triple and two runs scored. Emily Guthrie finished 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs, while Chloe Yeatts went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.

Abbi Atkinson added three hits, two runs scored and an RBI for the hosts.
