09/03/18 -

ROFF — Madison Wilson cracked a three-RBI triple to highlight a six-run Ada outburst in the top of the third inning ,and the Lady Cougars socked Stonewall 8-3 in the first round of the 22nd Annual Roff Tournament Thursday evening.

Ada won its third straight game to improve to 6-9 on the season, while Stonewall — ranked No. 7 in Class A — fell to 7-4.

“Madison Wilson had a huge base-clearing triple that gave us some insurance runs,” said Ada head coach Taylor Canida-Henry.

The Lady Cougars led just 2-1 heading into the pivotal third inning.

Amaya Frizell got the ball rolling for the Lady Cougars when she led off with a single. Torri Bray was then hit by a pitch.

After a wild pitch advanced the runners, Avery Brown hit a ground ball to Stonewall third baseman Clio Heath, who threw out Frizell trying to score on the play. Ada still had runners at the corners.

Bray scored when Daryn Allison reached on an error and Alyssa Colungo singled to load the bases with Ada on top 3-1.

Makenzie Marion then walked to force in a run and stretch the Ada advantage to 4-1.

Wilson then delivered her big blow off SHS reliever Lyndi Humphers that put Stonewall in a 7-1 hole.

Kaley Watkins followed with a two-out, RBI double to make it 8-1. She finished 2-for-4 with a pair of two-baggers for the Lady Cougars.

“Kaley Watkins had two big hits for us,” Canida-Henry said.

Stonewall got RBI singles by Alexis Chamberlain in the bottom of the third and Ashley Hayes in the bottom of the fourth before the time limit expired in the fifth.

Colungo finished 2-for-2 for the Lady Cougars, while Allison walked twice and scored two runs.
