KLAHOMA CITY – The Ada High School boys and girls tennis teams opened the 2018 season with second-place finishes in the Carl Albert Tournament on Friday.
The Ada boys, who registered a score of 55, finished three points behind Deer Creek (58). Norman was third at 51, host Carl Albert ended up fourth at 50 and Yukon took fifth at 43.
The Cougars crowned one champion – the No. 2 doubles combination of Harrison Boggs and Ryan McCortney. Ada’s No. 1 Doubles team of Landon Swopes and Lane Taylor settled for second place. Ada’s No. 2 singles entrant Christian Siegle claimed third, and Reese Siegle, at No. 1 singles, ended up fourth.
Boggs and McCortney rolled to an easy 6-1, 6-0 victory over the Norman duo of Hopper and Meton at No. 2 doubles for the championship. Deer Creek’s Doh and Ivestor downed Swopes and Taylor by a 6-7, 6-2, (10-7) count in the No. 1 doubles title match.
Christian Siegle earned a 6-0, 6-1 rout of Norman’s Zech Heisey in the No. 2 singles third-place matchup, and Reese Siegel dropped his final match of the day to Deer Creek’s Kyler Melton. The final score was 6-2, 6-2.
